The hoopla began Friday night with a series of midnight events. Or rather, the craziness began hours earlier as young fans and their parents lined up at retail stores across the country to be among the first to take home a copy.

In Salt Lake City, 2,500 devotees braved lines, while 2,000 attended in Los Angeles and 700 showed up in New York. Several "Twilight" actors made appearances at the events, including Ashley Greene (Alice Cullen), Nikki Reed (Rosalie Hale), Rachelle Lefevre (Victoria) and Edi Gathegi (Laurent). Director Catherine Hardwicke held court in Dallas, even though she will not be helming the next film in the series, "New Moon." Not in attendance, however, were the film's biggest stars, Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart.

Drew Barrymore knows a thing or two about extraterrestrials, so vampires shouldn't be too much of a stretch. But E! Reports that there may be some Twilighting going on with Drew Barrymore.

The E.T. actress is in talks to direct Eclipse, the third entry in the Twilight franchise.

According to Entertainment Weekly, Barrymore is among the top choices to follow in the footsteps ofCatherine Hardwicke, who helmed Twilight, and Chris Weitz, who's about to start filming the first sequel, New Moon.

Hardwicke opted out of the franchise because she felt she didn't have enough breathing room to do the follow-up justice. And because of producer Summit Entertainment's tight release schedule—New Moonis set for a Nov. 20, 2009, release and Eclipse just six months later, on June 30, 2010—Weitz will be in post-production on New Moon while Eclipse is filming.

Barrymore has just wrapped her feature-directing debut with Whip It!, starring Ellen Page.

A rep for Barrymore declined to comment on the report.

Kristen Stewart may be completely enamored with her undead boyfriend in Twilight, but the actress insists her intense romance with costar Robert Pattinson is reserved for the big screen.

"Rob and I are good friends. We went through a lot together, so we feel very close," the newly-minted It-girl says of her sexy costar in Nylon magazine's March issue.

Stewart has been dating actor Michael Angarano since 2006, but that hasn't stopped rumors of an off-screen fling with her Twilight costar.

"If we go out in public, every little detail is scrutinized, like the way I stand next to him. And it’s like, I know this guy really [expletive] well," she says. "It's only natural that we're sort of leaning on each other, because we're put in the most … psychotic situations."

Stewart and Pattinson will reprise their roles in the Twilight sequel, New Moon, which begins filming in March and is set to open on November 20, 2009. The third film in the series, Eclipse, will arrive June 30, 2010.

Rob Pattinson will not be a musical performer  to contribute to the soundtrack for the vampire movie's forthcoming sequel - because he wants to keep music as a back up career.
The British actor is a talented composer, pianist and guitarist and wrote two songs for the original movie, helping the soundtrack top the U.S. album charts upon its release last year (08).
But Pattinson insists he's now taking a backseat to rockers Paramore, who are penning the title track to the movie's sequel, New Moon - because pursuing music professionally was never his intention.
He tells America's OK! magazine, "I really didn't want it to look like I was trying to cash in. Music is my back up plan."

I think that he should just stick to acting in twilight right now anyway... What is your opinion??

So Guys, there had been widespread Internet talk that Madonna may be a part of the Twilight sequel, New Moon, but it may only be partly true, a source close to the production tells EW. Summit Entertainment, the studio behind the movie series, has no plans to cast the pop star and sometime actor in New Moon. However, because Madonna's manager, Guy Oseary, is a producer on the project, there is some talk of her providing songs for the sequel. Still, no deals have been made yet, and the plans haven't progressed beyond.

She will probably write a song or two for Twilight. What do you think? I doubt they would cast her, although she would play a good vampire. Am I right?

there has also been some noise that the Jonas Brothers will be possibly writing a song for New Moon, but nothing has been confirmed yet for that either!

So it turns out that the part of Jane might go to 14-year old gifted child actress Dakota Fanning. E! Online gives the complete scoop by letting readers know that:

“There were no auditions,” a source reveals. “They just offered it to her outright, and now they’re in negotiations. They’ve been going back and forth.”

Jane is a member of Italy’s Volturi, the most deadly group of bloodsucking killers in author Stephenie Meyer’s best-selling series.

In the casting notice we got our hands on earlier this month, Jane is described as a petite blonde with a “Botticelli angel-like face…[and] crimson irises.” While fellow Volturi guards Demetri & Felix “are three times the size of her, they are terrified of her,” the casting notice reads.

Coincidentally (or maybe not), an online petition started by a Twilight fan already asks the studio, Summit Entertainment, to cast Fanning because she would be “perfect” for the role.

Early last month, Entertainment Weekly suggested Pushing Daisies star and Broadway diva Kristin Chenoweth. “Her voice is certainly high enough, and at 4'11'', she's also short enough,” writer Amy Wilkinson proposed.

Director Chris Weitz is expected to start shooting New Moon in March in the U.S. and Italy. If all goes as planned, the movie will hit theaters on Nov. 20.
